Workplace Reintegration Management (BEM)

Workplace Reintegration Management (BEM) is a structured process prescribed by German labour law that aims to facilitate the reintegration of employees who have been absent for an extended period due to illness or incapacity. It is based on the principles of confidentiality, voluntariness, and cooperation between employer, employee, and representatives such as the works council. The main goals of BEM are to identify the reasons for the employee's absence, to develop a tailored plan for returning to work, and to prevent future absences. The process comprises several steps, including the identification of eligible employees, the sending of written invitations, conducting meetings to discuss the absences and formulate a plan, as well as monitoring the implementation of the plan. BEM offers numerous benefits for both employers and employees, including the reduction of absenteeism, increased productivity, cost savings, and a boost in workplace morale. It is an indispensable instrument for promoting a healthy and productive working environment.
